The MSU Comprehensive Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD) Center provides comprehensive multidisciplinary care for infants and children with BPD. Our center includes nutrition, social work, respiratory therapy, pulmonology, allergy, and immunology services. The MSU Comprehensive BPD Center is part of our MSU Health Care Specialty and Pediatric clinics which offers multi-disciplinary services and is funded in part through Children’s Special Health Care Services and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
BPD is a serious lung condition affecting infants born prematurely who require oxygen therapy. Most infants with BPD are born more than 10 weeks before their due dates. Because their lungs are not fully formed, they require supplemental oxygen, and other respiratory support, to maintain adequate oxygenation and protect their brains and other organs. If the children require oxygen for a prolonged time, they are diagnosed with BPD.
